Spring 2025 Update!
Well, it has been a long, chilly, wet winter! However, last week we saw the first signs of spring as the Tree Swallows began nesting in the birdhouses we installed around the farm and orchard. The tree frogs are out and spawning in the wetlands we restored. We’re even spotting new species of birds and salamanders making their homes in the special habitats we’ve created. I can’t tell you how much seeing new signs of life after a cold winter of hard work does wonders for our spirits!
Winter is the time we can really devote to our restoration work. We planted several plots of noble firs, re-treed the riverbank, and planted up the new wetland areas with lots of native willows and my new favorite native ….elderberry! I’m also creating lots of native wildflower beds for pollinators and beetle banks for beneficial insects. But it’s also prime time for farm prep: creating new planting beds, caring for overwintering garlic and rhubarb and fruit trees, getting the first seed starts growing, and putting the first plantings of greens and peas in the ground. We will be so excited for the first harvests of the new year.
You may have noticed a change in graphic look of our emails. At the end of last year, we were thrilled to have exceeded 500 folks who signed up for our emails. Well, that happens to be a limit for a generic Gmail account. So, from here on out, we will be using our Squarespace website to deliver updates to you. We will continue to be mindful not to over-send, but if you no longer want to receive our emails, just unsubscribe at the bottom of the page.
Keep an eye out for future updates and announcements for this year’s grand opening. Weather allowing, we are hoping for a Mother’s Day special opening of veggie starts and early greens. Also, drop us a line if you have any questions or comments. We’d love to hear from you.
